| Description of service(s) | Aims to help members of the community stretch their food dollar by offering access to good quality vegetables and fruit at affordable prices.... St. Joseph's Community Health Centre is a program of Horizon Health Network. Saint John Food Purchasing Club is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that helps members of our community stretch their food dollars by offering good quality fruits and vegetables at cost. Members of the club purchase a $10.00 or $20.00 order each month. The money is pooled together and we search for the best buys we can find (seasonal, bulk, specials, etc.) The vegetables and fruit purchased for the club is then divided equally among each food order. By combining the money, we are able to buy direct from wholesalers, buy in bulk, or by the case and take advantage of lower prices. Members volunteer their time and energy, sharing in the work load necessary to purchase, sort, and deliver the food orders. The aim is to provide more value for each food order, than any one person could on their own. |
