Description & Services | |
Description of service(s) | We grow organic fruits, vegetables and flowers that are free from pesticides and chemicals in a community setting. There are four different size plots to choose from and plot fee rentals pay for upkeep of the garden including tools and organic fertilizer. In 2014, the garden was enlarged to a total of 70 garden plots. Cost for plots range in price from $20 to $40 for the growing season. In the past, organic mushroom mulch had been used as fertilizer and in 2008, organic poultry manure was used. Compost is also made on site from the three large compost bins inside the garden. The fenced in area keeps us free from unwanted wildlife and we have access to water from the city. Water is also collected in barrels in the garden. A garden shed has supplies of all tools needed. Tasks are assigned in the spring on a volunteer basis and garden mentors are always willing to give gardening advice. |
Dates Program is Offered | Plots are rented at the beginning of May and gardening can begin as soon as weather permits in mid May. Some members have planted their plots with perennials and these are left intact every year. Cleanup for the plots must be completed by the end of October. |
