Description & Services
Description of service(s) We are a inclusive , creative, compassionate spiritual community within the United Church of Canada! The Spirit moves among us, inviting us to find new meaning in traditional ways, and also to try new and different ways of being and living together. .
We are open to different ways of naming God/the Holy, of talking to/listening to God/Spirit.
People come here from diverse places and diverse spiritual paths- to be welcomed and accepted where they are. We share each other's joys and sorrows.
Since March 1 , 2014 , we are two spiritual communities sharing a cooperative ministry: Wesley United Church in the town of St Andrews and the country church of St James which meets month by month in Scotch Ridge and Oak Hill, its two buildings.
For 9 months out of 12, Wesley meets at 9:30 and St James at 11:30; for 3 of the non-winter months we switch times. We also switch Easter Sunday, to accommodate St James at Scotch Ridge who begin with an Easter breakfast. One Sunday in July we have a Joint 11 a.m. worship service at Wesley to enjoy the Vocal Techniques Students in a Celebration of Music.
Three times a year, instead of meeting in our churches, we join the rest of St Croix Presbytery for a communion service- usually in the St Stephen area. The next service will be 11 a.m. June 7 in the Garcelon Centre in St Stephen.
Both our churches offer occasional coffee and conversation time after worship.
We also offer a variety of small supportive groups for spiritual reflection, learning and sharing, and prayer. See Small Groups in the sidebar.
During the school year, Wesley offers , approximately monthly, evening contemplative , interactive and seasonal midweek spiritual gatherings.
We care deeply for community, justice locally and globally, and for the well-being of the planet.
We keep in touch with interested members and friends via a weekly email , Wesley-St James Cooperator.
We welcome doubts and questions. We gather Wisdom from all sources. We include long-time United Church members and also seekers from other churches and spiritual paths.
We are a progressive, open ,compassionate presence within southwest New Brunswick.
