Description of service(s) | KV3C is a registered non-profit, organization that supports families in the Kennebecasis Valley community. Every child is a gift and a reason for celebration. Parents are encouraged to recognize and celebrate their child’s development and the essential role they have as their child’s primary teacher. Because learning starts at birth, our programs and activities are designed to provide parents and care givers of children 0–5 years of age learning opportunities that encourage healthy physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and social development. Programs we presently offer: KV Family Playgroup: Experience wonderful ‘play’ mornings with songs, crafts, stories, parachute games, snacks and themed activities designed to enhance children’s learning and meet other families. St. Augustine’s Church, Quispamsis -Tuesdays 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Quispamsis Civic Centre -Wednesdays 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Bill McGuire Memorial Centre -Thursdays 10:00 am to 12:00 pm This program is open for Parents, Grandparents, Caregivers and children 0-5 years of age. A suggested $2.00 drop-in fee per child is asked to help out with the cost of our supplies. Baby Wonders: The first year for Baby is filled with wonder not only for baby but for Mom and Dad too. This playgroup is an opportunity for parents of babies under 18 months of age to discover and explore the world of parenthood with other parents. Learn what to expect in the early years of parenting in a group environment where we cover a variety of topics from sleep (or lack there of) to infant massage with qualified guest speakers. Baby Wonders is held on Monday mornings at the Quispamsis Civic Centre from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Parenting Workshop Series: KV3C is committed to providing knowledge to parents on issues that are important to them. We realize in this fast paced world it is often difficult to find time to seek information on these parenting challenges. We have addressed the time ‘crunch’ by organizing short, one evening workshops with excellent guest speakers to offer parents insights into a diverse selection of child development issues. Call for information on our next series. Roots of Empathy: This is an evidence-based classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among elementary school children by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. At the heart of the program is a neighborhood infant and parent who visit the classroom every three weeks over the school year. A trained ROE instructor coaches students to observe the baby's development and to label the baby's feelings. In this experiential learning, the baby is the "Teacher" and a lever, which the instructor uses to help children identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others. This "emotional literacy" taught in the program lays the foundation for more safe and caring classrooms, where children are the "Changers". Funshops: These are parent-child interactive programs that offer parents “tricks of the trade” to maximize your child’s learning. Our themes include science, art, music and literacy. We will offer parents tools to help promote your child’s development while sharing in fun-filled activities with the children. If your child is 4 to 5 years of age and beginning school in September come join the fun! We’ll share a story time, create and have lots of fun learning together. Each parent will receive an information package that includes an activity to continue the fun and learning at home. Our scheduled playgroups and baby wonders are drop in programs with registration available on site.
